Roland U.S. is looking for the nation's top drummer, and hundreds of participants nationwide are currently trying to be just that as the 2011 V-Drums Contest gets underway. Co-sponsored by DRUM! Magazine, Remo, Vic Firth and Drum Workshop, the V-Drums Contest gives drummers the chance to compete at the local, regional, and national levels with solo drum performances on the TD-20SX V-Pro Series V-Drums, and win professional percussion gear and swag along the way. In only its second year, the Roland V-Drums Contest has become one of the most anticipated contests of the year.

Eager contenders began their journey by submitting a digital audition to qualify for a spot at one of the preliminary competitions, being held at select music retailers June 23rd -30th. A limited number of performers will then be invited to continue on to the Semi-Finals round with competitions being held nationwide in late July. The top semi-finals championswill then be taking their turn at the U.S. National Finals in Las Vegas, Nevada, in August 2011 in hopes of being crowned the U.S. V-Drums Champion.

In addition to winning a custom wrapped TD-20SX V-Pro kit and a complete set of DW hardware, the newly crowned U.S. Champion will have the opportunity to compete in the V-Drums World Championship held at the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) yearly trade show in January 2012. All the participants of the V-Drums Contest will receive valuable feedback and critiques by leading professionals in the field of electronic percussion, who will be looking for musicianship, stage presence, and creative uses of technology in drum.

The use of electronic percussion in education continues to grow as teachers realize the value that adding technology offers for encouraging and retaining students. From expanding the choices of sounds and instruments available, to creating an authentic ensemble experience by playing along with MIDI sequences and song files, students develop creativity and playing skills in a more authentic, real-world setting. The Roland V-Drums Contest creates an additional avenue for students and teachers alike to experiment with and explore all the capabilities this added technology offers, while learning new ideas and techniques along the way.
