EDUCATIONAL THOUGHTS
Welcome
(Photo) Back to school…no matter our age, this time of year always brings about a feeling of starting over, an anticipation of change and a renewed sense of focus.

And for many of us, it means starting anew with our students. If you’re looking for fresh new ideas, be sure to read on. This edition of The Educator is full of new concepts and ideas from your peers.

Maybe you’ll take inspiration from Matt Johnson of Fullerton College. Matt is starting the new school year with new opportunities thanks to the school’s new V-Drums® Lab. Read about how Matt plans to use the implementation of the drum lab to update his curriculum and enhance his teaching.

Choral teachers in particular will benefit from the new and inspiring ideas on how to incorporate technology into your core curriculum with “Cut to the Music.” And speaking of technology, be sure to read about the different ways that studying synthesis and the creation of sound can assist with the development of critical listening skills, as well as enhance the study of performance, improvisation, composition and accompaniment.

In this day and age, it’s important to stay relevant. We’ll also take a look at how music instruction can be used to teach problem solving, collaboration, and technology skills necessary in other areas of study. And we’ll also introduce you to our newest clinician Dr. Ruth Holmes who, as Professor of Music at Lubbock Christian University, is considered a leading expert in the study of early music.

We know you’ll find many great ideas to start your new year off right!

Enjoy,
