EDUCATIONAL THOUGHTS |
Welcome back to the educator! We had a great Summer on the road with the ultimate traveling music camp tour, Camplified. But now that sing-alongs and s’mores have given way to booster meetings, field shows, and a crop of new students, we are eager to share the latest stories from educators and the tools they’re using to make the most of the 2013–14 school year.
Our Spotlight in this issue features a teacher of the instrument we all have—the voice! Berklee’s Darcel Wilson has some great ideas on how training it can benefit not only singers, but instrumentalists as well.
Chris Sampson, professor at USC’s Thornton School of Music, has used a variety of recording platforms in his teaching over the years. Now he’s sharing his experience and secrets to increasing student success. You can also get more recording tutorials and tips from teachers in our Hear From Your Peers article.
Piano lessons are a great starting point for many music students and rightly so. But did you know that there are advantages to getting technology involved from day one? Check out the Six Benefits of Learning on a Digital Piano, and the latest student piano from Roland—the new F-20.
We also have some great resource articles that apply to all students and teachers in the age of “apps” and an exciting new electronic percussion product—the HPD-20 HandSonic!
Fall is the season for education and we wish you a fruitful harvest!
Enjoy,
Corey Fournier
